Creating and Importing Custom Skins

To get started with this guide, you will need the following:

It is also possible to use an app like FTPD on the 3DS to access files remotely, in case you don't have a screwdriver.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Power off your system, hold START, and press the power button to enter GodMode9.
  2. Go to SYSNAND SD, then title, then 0004000e, then go to the following folder based on your region:
    • EU: 000400000017CA00
    • JP: 000400000017FD00
    • US: 00040000001B8700
  3. Enter the content folder, find the largest .app file, and select it by pressing A.
  4. Select NCCH image options on the bottom screen, then select Mount image to drive, then choose yes.
  5. If done correctly, you should see several folders and files. Move the pointer to romfs, then press R + A.
  6. Select Copy to 0:/gm9/out on the bottom screen, then press A.
  7. Press START + R to power the 3DS off.
  8. Remove the microSD card if you aren't using FTPD. You will need a Philips 00 screwdriver to open the back of the console and access the microSD card.
  9. Go to the root of the SD card, then gm9out. If everything has been done correctly, you should have a romfs folder here.
  10. Copy the entire romfs folder onto an empty folder on your computer. (We recommend a documents folder with little in it, to make it easier to find the romfs folder.)
  11. Enter the folder you copied from your 3DS onto your PC and go to resourcepacks/skins/skinpacks. There should now be many folders that contain skin packs and their data.
  12. You can use any skin pack, however we recommend the PVP_Warriors folder because it is already on your system and available, and it has no 3D models.
  13. Enter the folder of your choice.
    • If your skin is a Steve model (thicker arms), overwrite a file that doesn't have slim in the name.
    • If your skin is an Alex model, overwrite a file with slim in the name.
  14. Flip your skin using a website such as PineTools Flip Image.
  15. Open Ohana3DS, go to the top bar, select Tools, then BCH texture replacer.
  16. Go to File in the top bar, pick Open, and select the skin you want to overwrite. After selecting it, press the replace button and pick the skin image you want to use. Then go to File and click save. Close Ohana3DS.
  17. Open the root of your SD card, go to the luma folder, then titles, and create a folder. The name will depend on your region:
    • EU: 000400000017CA00
    • JP: 000400000017FD00
    • US: 00040000001B8700
  18. Create a folder inside the folder you just created called romfs, then another inside romfs called resourcepacks, then another called skins, then another called skinpacks, and finally another with the exact same name as your skin folder (e.g., PVP_Warriors).
  19. Select the skin file you just made with Ohana3DS and copy it to your skin folder on the SD card.
  20. Eject your SD card and insert it into your 3DS. Make sure the 3DS is off, then hold the select button as you turn it on. You should now see the Luma3DS configuration screen.
  21. Make sure that the Enable game patching option is turned on, then press START.
  22. Open Minecraft 3DS Edition. If you did everything right, your skin should now show up!
